CH.598 Cailie’s Birthday
CH.598 Cailie’s Birthday
As I was producing more airships, and preparing the equipment to explore the summoner monster dimension, Cailie’s birthday came.
No, I hadn’t forgotten about it despite being busy.
That day started off the same as Alice and Lua’s birthdays. With me bringing Cailie a self made breakfast in bed.
Cailie’s breakfast was on the lighter side, as she doesn’t want to eat too much early in the mornings. It consisted of assorted fruits that I had cut into bite sized pieces, as well as some sashimi. For her drink, she has lemon flavored mineral water.
Now I know what you might ask. Is sashimi actually safe? Well, generally not. In this world, at least. The quality control of fish won’t spot all of the parasites and other stuff that can be in raw fish. So don’t eat raw fish.
But mer-folk are different. They, and other sea living races, have way stronger stomachs than regular people so they can eat raw food without having to worry about such things. Not like they can make a fire underwater to cook their food.
Oh. It might also be worth mentioning that I’m currently a Mer-folk. Just as a treat for Cailie. Sure it makes living on HomeBase slightly more difficult, but I’m good enough with Mana Flight that it really isn’t an issue.
And Cailie’s room does have a pool. And that pool leads to the rest of the HomeBase waterways, because yes, HomeBase does have waterways for water living races. Even if they are currently used by all five mer-folk who are currently here. And Brooke also uses them for training.
After her breakfast, I carried Cailie over to our private spa room. One that only the seven of us could access. I gently placed her on one of the massage tables, a longer one that was partially under water, leaving a bit of Cailie in the water, while most of her was in the air.
I then gave her a full body massage, putting some mana into it. Magical massages like this really help to get all the muscle fatigue out. … and they also help me learn the Mana Healing skill.
I massaged Cailie’s entire body, focusing especially on her tail. I know from experience that a mer-folk tail gets sore after a lot of swimming. And Cailie swims all the time, except when she is sitting or laying down. She barely uses her floating wheelchair anymore, which is somewhat of a shame, as I really liked it.
After the massage, it was time for some gifts.
Alice was first and she had made Cailie a magic staff. It was made of greater elder treant wood. That is the S-rank treant, by the way. I helped Alice get the material by ranking up a HomeBase treant up to S-rank. And by using specific Rank-Up-Magics, I was able to have the treant be a Wind and Water attributed treant.
Because yes, despite the bad memories related to it, and her lacking the attribute until I installed a card into her, Cailie has learned Water Magic.
Alice’s gift also included the monster core from the treant, which Cailie can later turn into a magic stone that will then get attached to the staff.
Next was Lua. She is the busiest of us, as she is still teaching dhampirs True Blood Magic. We are almost done with all the dhampirs in the three Kingdoms, and then we can move onto the Empire’s dhampirs.
But back to Lua’s gift. It wasn’t a physical gift, but instead an experience. A show, if you will. She had ‘dragged’ her dhampir students and made a play based on Cailie’s story. Her early life, getting banished, meeting us and all of that.
It was well received by Cailie, though someone might argue that she cried too much while watching it. And naturally I made sure to record all of it and it will later end up on the Internet, so anyone with a smartphone will be able to watch it.
Next up, Unika. She, in her classic gift giving way, had acquired a monster for Cailie. A wing fish. They are weak E-rank monsters that, as the name implies, can fly for a little while. Not free flight, but more than gliding.
Sadly despite her best attempts, Cailie couldn’t tame the fish, so I tamed it on her behalf. It would still be Cailie’s monster, I’m just the tamer. Cailie named the fish Jalie. The -lie end to the fishes name means, in Nixie clan tradition, that it is a part of Cailie’s family, while Ja comes from Prabhu Jala, the guardian dragon of the Nixie clan.
Wilma, naturally, made Cailie a weapon. Technically the vambrace, yes a singular one, she made is more of a defensive tool, but it has two hidden blades. One is like an Assassin’s Creed dagger, coming out from the front, while the other is a fin-style blade that can come out from the side of the vambrace.
And Cailie only got one of them, as her other hand has her duel disk. So she wouldn’t have one for that hand anyway.
Last, of the gifts I’ll mention, was the one Janina and I double teamed. Don’t worry, I have an individual one as well, but I wanted something really cool and I needed Janina’s help on it.
See, a few weeks ago when I visited the Dragon’s coast, Janina and I visited Prabhu Jala. We convinced him to let me install a card into him, which made him evolve on the spot. And the only thing we wanted in return were Jala’s scales. So Prabhu Jala agreed, he evolved and we got the scales.
And from those scales Janina and I made a traditional dragon priestess outfit. It was an outfit designed by Prabhu Jala’s great uncle, the dragon whose heart became the core of the Nixie clan’s dungeon. But with the dragon’s death, as well as the general destruction that came with it, the design was lost. Lost to all but one.
Janina still knew it, as she had seen it before. She knew the dragon who designed it. She had seen him making one. So we did our best to recreate the outfit, including making it out of water dragon scales, as it should be.
It was a long, dress-like outfit that was very … flowy. It looked more airy, that watery, except for the deep blue color coming from the dragon scales. It also looked like something that would be very difficult to swim in, but because of the water dragon scales, it was actually the best outfit for swimming I’ve ever seen.
As Janina told Cailie about the outfit, Cailie teared up for the … I stopped counting how many times she cried during the dhampir performance. She teared up again. She had only read about the outfit from some of the text left behind in the Nixie clan’s dungeon master graveyard. But since that room was established after the outfits had disappeared and the dragon who originally made them had died, no one actually knew what the outfit truly looked like. They only had recreations that were made by members of the Nixie clan. They never had a true one, made by a dragon from dragon scales.
But now, Cailie wore one. And she said she would start a new tradition. Only those who have survived the Nixie clan’s hallow prison would be allowed to wear this outfit. That was her promise.
After our celebrations on HomeBase, we made a quick visit to the Hero’s country. Just so Cailie could meet up with the few friends she has there.
It was mainly Marin, the herb shopkeeper who Cailie worked for, and a few of the mer-folk from the agency she worked for while being a singer. For some reason, the reason being you don’t question her, Ula was able to quickly arrange a meeting with the idols and ex-idols.
The mer-folk were happy to see Cailie doing better than okay, despite the fact that some of them were jealous of Cailie, as she was more successful than them, despite being a newbie. A few of them even asked if Cailie would come back to sing some songs, and Cailie promised to think about it.
Then we headed for the Nixie clan. By teleporting to the coast, me transforming into the closest approximation of a water dragon I could do, and I flew us from there.
The clan was already waiting for us, as I had visited and told them about today a few days ago. Even the members that live/study on HomeBase were here, as Alice had flown them here in her B.E.S. Covered Core
They had set up a celebration, but they honestly forgot to wish Cailie happy birthday as they saw her coming in dressed in her new outfit riding a water dragon they didn’t know.
But eventually they got their act together and were able to congratulate Cailie.
After the festivities, the clan showed us to the Lie family home. Cailie told me that she hadn’t been home since her sister took over the clan. After that, she was forced to live in a small hut.
The house was very well cleaned, and in Cailie’s opinion, a bit too well cleaned. A lot of the artworks that had been drawn on the walls have been removed. Cailie asked about it, and the clan members explained that Amilie had destroyed them, so the clan had to completely remove them to fix the building.
Cailie was saddened by the fact, but there was nothing we could do. Except make new things. So I checked if I had any waterproof and underwater capable paint.
Sadly I didn’t, but luckily the clan had plenty. So I took some into Storage, so I could analyze the stuff, and we used the rest to paint the walls of the house to make it more lived in. Despite it currently not having a resident.
I focused my efforts in making a painting of Cailie. I’m not a great painter, or at least I wasn’t back before I got isekaied, but apparently my sky high stats are good for more things that punching people, as I made a decently good art piece of her in her new dress.
I also made sure she wore an accessory she wasn’t wearing yet, but that she would be wearing soon.
After we were done with that, Cailie and I headed to the master bedroom of the house. It was one of the few rooms of the house that had an air bubble so you could breathe normally.
I then set up Space Magic and Time Magic barriers around us, so we wouldn’t be disturbed, before I asked Cailie to close her eyes.
“Brian?” Cailie questioned, but closed her eyes anyway.
“Don’t kid yourself. You know what is coming. I gave one to Alice on her birthday. I gave one to Lua on hers. It is your turn.” I told her. My words got a nice big smile onto Cailie’s face, as she now knew what was coming.
Naturally I also did my best to make something that would fit mer-folk and especially Nixie clan customs. In the Nixie clan, the traditional ‘engagement ring’ is a choker that holds the ending part of your name, which is basically your family name. It is nice, but I wanted to make something … more.
Lucky for me, the mer-folk in the Hero’s country, as well as the ones living along the east coast, have a different tradition. They make a belt-like accessory that a mer-folk wears on the line between their mermaid and human parts. It isn’t actually a belt, I just suck at describing things.
So I made Cailie one. Out of metal. Orichalcum, specifically. Just because I think having a golden ‘belt’ with a magic stone embedded in it would look very beautiful on her.
Yes it is quite sturdy, but I also wrote some enchantments to it so that it wouldn’t bother Cailie even if she wore it 24/7.
The first was a size adjustment enchantment. It would make sure the ‘belt’ would always fit her perfectly. Unless Cailie somehow grew in size a ton, but I don’t think that will happen.
The second was an enchantment that made the belt feel extremely comfortable. I had found it while reading some of the books from the Sage’s tower’s library, but it isn’t something commonly used, as it really has no purpose. You don’t want to waste that much enchanting space on a comfort enchantment, unless you are making a dress for a noble or something, and those should already be comfortable.
Last was a self clearing enchantment that I actually copied from the shoes I got isekaied with. I lost most of my clothes during the Spirit Tiger incident, but my shoes did survive. And they have an overpowered self cleaning enchantment. So I copied that to Cailie’s ‘belt’, so that it, and the skin under it, would always stay perfectly clean.
Putting the belt on Cailie was fun. I got to run my hands all over her body for the second … okay, for like the fourth time today. And I really enjoyed the way she thanked me for the engagement gift.
But that is our private business that you don’t need to know more about.
What do you think?
