Chapter 554: Chapter 507, Banquet (Two in One Large Chapter)_3

The conversation was interrupted once again as Defu clutched the young master’s hand tightly, twisting it outward forcefully, “Do you dare point your dog paw at my master, have you grown tired of living?”

Instantly, the young master’s face contorted in pain, and he tried to pull his hand away, but couldn’t budge it at all.

Seeing the young master openly revealing his family name, failing to elicit the slightest concern from the opposition, the butler inwardly cried that they were in for it. Beads of sweat formed on his forehead as he wished to intercede but, looking at Defu’s frosty demeanor, his throat tightened, and he couldn’t find the words to speak.

Watching everyone around them become so frightened that they dared not even eat, Daohua put down her chopsticks in frustration, “Why are there always such annoying flies wherever we go? It completely ruins the mood. Let’s leave, I lost my appetite.”

With that, she stood up and left the banquet.

Xiao Yeyang also got up and, with an indifferent glance at the young master, followed Daohua.

As the two left, Wang Manman and Bi Shi hurriedly followed after them.

Defu looked coldly at the butler, “Since it’s your family’s celebration, our master will not pursue this. However… it’s best to keep your distance from such troublemaking relatives.”

After speaking, he released the young master’s hand.

The young master, unsteady on his feet, staggered backwards and fell to the ground.

Defu coldly said, “Next time clean your dog eyes well before you leave the house. There are some people in this world you can’t afford to offend.” With that, he shook his sleeve and turned to leave.

The butler bowed in farewell, only daring to have someone help the young master up after they were a safe distance away. Somewhat frustratedly he said, “Young master, you’ve caused trouble this time. Take him home.”

After handing off the young master, he quickly made his exit. This matter was beyond his control; it had to be reported to the lord of the house.

After leaving the banquet, neither Daohua nor Xiao Yeyang were in good spirits.

Daohua said, “Arriving with joy only to return with disappointment.” It had been a rare chance to engage with the local customs, and it was now gone.

Xiao Yeyang thought of that young master’s gaze at Daohua, and his heart filled with discomfort.

Both walked down the street with lackluster enthusiasm.

Xiao Yeyang observed the town streets carefully and, upon seeing a shop selling embroidered goods, immediately pulled Daohua inside, “Do you have any veils here?”

The shop assistant, seeing their extraordinary attire, immediately said with a smile, “Yes, yes, just wait a moment.” And with that, he hurried to the storeroom to fetch several veils that had been languishing there for quite a while.

In rural markets, the girls weren’t so particular and disliked wearing veils, so these few had been brought back from the city by the shopkeeper’s wife and had remained unsold in the shop for a year or two.

Once the shop assistant brought out the veils, Xiao Yeyang picked out a ginger-yellow one. “The fabric isn’t very good, but you’ll have to make do with this for now.” He then proceeded to put it on Daohua himself.

Daohua didn’t move, letting Xiao Yeyang put it on for her, but pouted somewhat unhappily, “It’s so annoying, having to wear this even in the countryside.”

As Xiao Yeyang tied the strings, he asked, “Do you want me to have Defu teach that man another lesson?”

Daohua shook her head, “No need, today is the Zhuang Family’s happy occasion. We took the initiative to join their feast; it wouldn’t be right to add to their troubles.”

Xiao Yeyang nodded, “Fine. That bastard said the Sha County County Magistrate is his brother-in-law, so it shouldn’t be hard to find him.”

Daohua warned, “Don’t do anything rash. I’ve heard from my brother that the Sha County Magistrate isn’t bad.”

Xiao Yeyang snorted, “He’d better be good, otherwise he can stop being the County Magistrate.”

On the side, the shop assistant listened to their conversation, his heart pounding.

My heavens, what kind of background do these two have? Mentioning the Magistrate with not a trace of reverence but rather as if they were looking to settle scores?

Was he overhearing a secret?

The usually storytelling-loving assistant’s mind raced with innumerable tales of silencing by murder, which immediately made his legs shake in fear.

In stories, people would kill over a bit of silver. He had just heard a secret concerning the County Magistrate, he was sure he was in even more danger.

Once Daohua had her veil on, she noticed the shop assistant staring at her and Xiao Yeyang with a pale, frightened face.

Daohua looked at Xiao Yeyang with an expression that said, ‘What did you do to him?’.

Xiao Yeyang shook his head as if to say ‘I didn’t do anything, is he an idiot?’ Then, with a stern face, he asked, “How much is it?”

The assistant shook his head in trepidation, “I don’t want your money.” He just wanted to avoid being killed.

Xiao Yeyang and Daohua exchanged glances, at a loss.

“Let’s go.”

Xiao Yeyang took Daohua by the hand and headed straight out the door, deeming it best to leave the abnormal assistant behind.

Seeing his master leave, Defu took out a piece of Fragmented Silver and laid it on the counter, glancing at the assistant with a speechless look on his face, “As if my master can’t afford a veil?”
